Apple Computer dead? Long live Apple.
This did not get a lot of attention yesterday, but Apple changed their name from Apple Computer, Inc. to Apple, Inc.
Having worked at a Company that has changed their name, this can be a pretty big deal. For Apple it is not a total re-branding, but it reflects what they are doing now, consumer electronics.
That being said, when Apple introduced the iPod, they may not of counted on most of their money coming from iPod sales within five years.
The Apple iPhone and Apple TV are both products geared for consumer market. Microsoft is also headed in this direction as well with the XBox 360 and the Zune.

Btw, I like my Zune, its a great device for sticking in my jacket pocket while riding the bus, and its def. a lot more fun to watch TV shows and DVDs on than the little screens the iPod has. The UI is great, and I really think we'll see some great applications for wireless sharing here soon.
I did not mean to imply that Microsoft is no longer a software company, but it is clear to me that you guys are expanding past just PC software. The XBox and the Zune are just the start of this trend.
I have a Mac at home, and I use a Microsoft mouse over the Apple mighty mouse. The Microsoft mouse is much better than the Apple mighty mouse.
Stay warm in Redmond Joe,
David ;-)
