Microsoft goes ColdFusion crazy at CFUNITED

Brad Abrams of Microsoft gave a great presentation on the Atlas framework. Atlas is a javascript library for performing Ajax like functionality in web abblications.

At the end of the presentation they showed off a library that Microsoft wrote that translates ColdFusion objects into JSON (Javascript Notation).

Brad mentioned that Atlas is platform agnostic, and will work on IE as well as Firefox and Safari.

He also said that asmx pages have the ability to output in JSON by adding a /JS to the end of you asmx url.

I read somewhere that Atlas is not compatibible with the major Ajax libraries like Prototype and Dojo.  Not sure if that's true, but if so that's a downer.

Correction, in case the speaker was incorrect. The library to convert CF Structure into JSON was done by a fellow CFer! He just used the library. Now they do have some JSON use on the library side also I believe. The CF code wasn't done by MS though.

Yup -- we had a little help on the CF code... we don't have that many CF developers at Microsoft... But the code works just great with the existing Atlas JScript libraries... We'd love to have someone in the CF community work on the CF\Atlas project!

As far as Atlas working with other Ajax frameworks... we totally want to enable this, and we have people working on it now.  If you run into issues, please let us know.. http://atlas.asp.net
