Brian Knight Shows Off New Tool for Migrating DTS packages to SSIS

I read on Brian Knight's blog about a new tool that converts DTS packages to SSIS packages on SQL Server 2005. Brian says that the built in migration wizard that comes with SQL Server 2005 is only 40% successful, and that it does not follow the best practices for building SSIS packages.

The tool is called DTS xChange, and is a couple of weeks away from release.

YIKES!

Looks like the price tag on this one makes it "enterprise only".

# Per Developer License ($4,995) - Includes unlimited package conversions using proven SSIS rules from a single developer machine and site. Also includes the DTS Profiler and the Enterprise Logging features.
# Per Site License ($9,995) - Includes unlimited package conversions using proven SSIS rules for an entire team of developers at a specified site.

Trial edition will allow for 5 conversions.

Good thing we only had a couple of packages and the built in conversion worked.
